Description
The Pearl-Spotted Owlet (Glaucidium Perlatum) is one of the most common owls in the savanna woodland area of southern Africa. It is crepuscular, often active in the early morning and late afternoon to avoid competing with other species. This owlet has "mock-eyes" at the back of it's head, which confuses the predator as to which way the owl is facing. Photo captured by Richard Strahl, near a waterhole in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, Botswana, last year - with Cheryl's post-processing.
