Description
Ruins of Kennecott. Kennecott copper mine town in southeastern Alaska. The mill town was abandoned around 1938. Now a National Historic Landmark, it is located in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park - the largest national park in the U.S.A. View of the leaching plant with the Kennicott Glacier in the background during a pending rain storm. The reason that all of the buildings in Kennecott were painted red: it was the cheapest paint color at the time of construction! What a sight with the red buildings and mountains and glacier!
